Synopsis

A sprawling collection of invented and historical texts tracing the roots of anti-Semitism in Christianity, the rise of European nationalism, and the Promethean devastations of the soul concomitant with Fascism. Focused on Hitler as the extreme manifestation of a madness which is much harder to handle and to be absolved of because - like Breivik insisting on his sanity ? it is not clinically mad, it is sane ? both mad and sane. Performed rather than acted by two mostly hidden performers so that sound and image are central to the performance rather than characters, Hitler (rejoice for we are absolved) implicitly grapples with what all this might mean for us (apparently absolved by historical distance) in today?s fracturing Europe, both bemoaned and beloved.
